Dear Customer,
Following our Preliminary Safety Recall Notice published on 13 January 2026, we are writing to inform you about the corrective action we have defined for the mountaineering crampons listed above.
At Grivel, user safety is our highest priority, and we thank you for your cooperation.
Summary of the issue
As previously communicated, our post-market monitoring identified that the rear bail used on the Rambo 4 cramp-o-matic Evo and Evo America may disengage more easily than intended.
Because these products are personal protective equipment (PPE) used in mountaineering activities, users were instructed to stop using the product immediately as a precautionary measure.
Corrective action
After careful technical evaluation, we have defined the following corrective action:
Replacement of the rear bail with the rear bail used on the previous “Rambo 4 cramp-o-matic” model (non-Evo).
This rear bail:
- provides more secure retention;
- has proven reliable in use;
- was part of a previously certified configuration; and
- restores the crampon to a safe and compliant condition.
What we will do
We will provide, free of charge, a replacement rear bail from the previous non-Evo model, together with clear installation instructions.
If you purchased directly from Grivel, we will contact you to arrange shipment.
If you purchased from a retailer, please contact us so that we can arrange shipment of the replacement part.
Once requested, we expect to ship the replacement rear bail within approximately 5–10 working days, depending on destination.
If you prefer not to install the part yourself, we will provide an alternative solution.
What you need to do
- Do not use the crampons until the corrective action has been completed.
- Contact Grivel at shop@grivel.com to request the replacement rear bail, indicating:
- the product model,
- your country,
- your shipping address, and
- whether the product was purchased directly from Grivel or from a retailer.
- Once the replacement rear bail has been installed following the provided instructions, you may resume normal use of the crampons.
Once the corrective action has been completed, we kindly ask you to let us know, so that we can update our records.
