Made with solar energy

Mountains are our home and our inspiration, that’s why every day we strive to respect and protect them.

Sustainable manufacturing is therefore one of our values and commitments.

In 2010 we built a large photovoltaic system to power our factory in Aosta Valley (Italy): 516 kilowatts of power that allow us to save 83.000 liters of oil per year and save the Earth 806 kilograms of CO2 per day!

The photovoltaic technology

The word “photovoltaic” comes from “photo” that means “light” in Greek and “voltaic” that comes from Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the battery.

The photovoltaic technology allows to convert solar radiation into direct current electricity, through the photovoltaic effect. It is based on the properties of some semiconductors, such as silicon, which generate electricity when hit by solar radiation.

This makes a “photovoltaic cell”, and several linked cells make a “photovoltaic array”, which will be connected into a “solar panel” such as the ones you can see on the roofs of buildings.

The advantages are many:

  • The source (the sun) will not run out
  • No wastes produced
  • No maintenance needed for the components
  • High reliability through the lack of moving Parts
  • No occupation of natural ground, so important in the context in which our company is located, the Alps.
