I have been using the Grivel Master Pro Belayer Kit with Clepsydra L for rock climbing, multipitch belaying, rappelling, and rescue applications. It has become my primary belay device for multipitch climbing and technical rescue.
One of the main reasons I purchased this device was its unique T-bar release design. During a rescue scenario, I needed to lower a climber while belaying from above with the device in guide mode and the rope under tension. With many other belay devices, threading a Dyneema cord through the small release hole can be difficult, especially under stressful conditions.
The Grivel Master Pro made this process much easier. I was able to girth hitch a cord loop directly onto the T-bar and set up the release quickly. The process took approximately 30 seconds. This is an excellent design feature that makes a real difference when managing a loaded belay system.
I have also tested the device with both 9 mm and 9.5 mm ropes. It performed very well during belaying, rappelling, and controlled lowering from guide mode.
Beyond its functionality, I really appreciate the distinctive design. It looks different from most other belay devices, and the T-bar provides a practical advantage rather than just an unusual appearance.
This is now my preferred device for multipitch climbing and rescue applications. I also plan to use it for ice climbing this coming season.
Overall, I highly recommend the Grivel Master Pro to experienced climbers looking for a versatile belay device with a well-designed guide-mode release system.
