Steve House and Alan Rousseau reflect on light and fast alpinism through their experiences on the Slovak Direct on Denali, one of the most legendary routes in the Alaska Range.
In the summer of 2000, Steve House, Mark Twight, and Scott Backes completed a landmark 60-hour single-push ascent of the route. More than two decades later, the line was climbed again in a continuous push by Alan Rousseau, Jackson Marvell, and Matt Cornell, completing the route in 21 hours and 35 minutes.
Rousseau and House discuss the deeper motivations behind their ascents, their approach to risk, movement, and commitment, and their perspective on modern mountaineering.
What does light and fast alpinism really mean?
