I use a single axe combined with a pole or a pair of axes (hammer and shovel) depending on the difficulties, mainly during non-European expeditions both for climbing to "8000m" and for other mountains lower in altitude but more technical.
It is an extremely compact and reliable tool that adapts to different types of climbing on snow and ice, a MUST HAVE.
In 2018 I climbed Gasherbrum 1 in a fast and light style, in critical weather conditions. That season only Luis Stitzinger and I (my climbing partner) reached the top of the G-I. LIGHT MACHINE was my “war” axe.
